This study analyzes the current state of the urban drainage system in the Picota district of the San Martín department in Peru. A qualitative research approach was used, employing interviews and observation checklists to identify existing conditions, shortcomings, and deficiencies in the urban drainage system. Based on this diagnosis, sustainable urban drainage strategies are proposed, highlighting the importance of proper urban planning and emphasizing sustainability, opportunity creation, and improved quality of life. The study concludes that implementing strategies to improve urban livability and foster collaboration between authorities and the population in water management is crucial. This approach offers a more efficient way to address the population's needs and can be replicated in other jurisdictions with similar problems, where integrating sustainability into urban planning results in a better quality of life for residents. In this sense, incorporating sustainability into land management goes beyond optimizing the use of local water resources: it involves generating greater opportunities for development and well-being for the population, developing action strategies that can serve as a reference for future urban policies and projects at the regional level.
