ABOUT THE DRESS OF THE LAWYER AND THE CASE OF CHILE

Abstract

Trying to define or find the birth of a professional custom proves to be, in some way, difficult, even if it has medieval and Spanish dyes which were severed or violently ended after the wars of independence in the American continent. The present text aims to point out some simple and often striking aspects regarding the supposed "obligation" of lawyers and even the magistrates to dress some had determined to perform their function.

The analysis has its center in the historical analysis of the custom, in this way, to arrive at Chile and its positive texts that break with the custom made law by the kings of Spain and Castile. Finally, the text ends with a brief analysis of the general principles of law, especially "judicial decorum" and "dignity", which are constantly used by the Chilean judiciary and the leguleya community to maintain this strange habit of dressing in a certain external fashion.
