Abstract

The human being is exposed to multiple stressful situations, whether in the personal, family, social, work and academic areas. We must constantly adapt to a new situation when presented with a conflict or opportunity, and on many occasions doing so becomes a really difficult task; the objective was to discover the relationship that exists between emotional intelligence and adaptation to university. Material and methods; The type of research for its purpose is basic and for the level of knowledge is descriptive-correlational. The design used is non-experimental and cross-sectional. The test-type survey technique was applied, using the following instruments: Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS-24), developed by Salovey and Mayer (1995). And the Academic Experiences Questionnaire in its reduced version (QVA-r) developed by Almeida and Ferreira. The sample is constituted by the total of the entire population (120 participants) being a non-probabilistic purposive sampling. Results showed that emotional intelligence is related to adaptation to university, and 75% of the participants presented an average level in both variables, as well as in all its dimensions. Conclusion, there is a relationship between personal, interpersonal, career, study and institutional adaptation and emotional intelligence (p<0.05).
