Parenting styles and consumption of substances in students at schools in the district Pocollay of the Tacna city, 2020.

Abstract

Parenting styles refer to the different and varied attitudes that parents have towards their children during their lifetime, which function as protective factors or risk factors for the development of positive or negative behaviors. Objective; determine if there is a relationship between parenting styles and substance use in students of educational institutions in the district of Pocollay. Materials and Methods; The type of research is basic, descriptive-correlational. The technique applied was survey, two instruments were applied: Steinberg's Parenting Styles Scale and the Crafft/Carlos Scale. The sample consisted of 219 high school students from five educational institutions. Results: With regard to substance use, 90% of the students did not use substances, while 10% had problematic substance use. As for parenting styles, the highest percentage was negligent parenting style with 29%, and the last one was authoritative parenting style with 10%. Conclusion: There is a relationship between parenting styles and substance use among students in educational institutions in the district of Pocollay (X2 Pearson: -0,167; P-value: 0,014).
