Sociodemographic clinical characterization and evaluation of functional state of geriatric patients in the household home care program Hospital II EsSalud Ilo, february of the year 2019

Objetive: To determine the association that exists between the clinical, sociodemographic characteristics and the functional status of geriatric patients in the Home Care Program of Hospital II EsSalud Ilo, in February 2019.
Material and Methods: Observational, retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive study. Data were taken from the medical records and the Barthel Index modified by Shah was applied to 105 geriatric patients of the Home Care Program of Hospital II EsSalud Ilo in February 2019.
Results: Of the total of patients, 62.9% were female, and the average age was 84 years for both sexes, with an age range between 65 and 98 years. The systems mainly compromised were first the cardiovascular system with 64.8%, followed by 43.8% with compromise of the central and peripheral nervous system and in third place 28.6% with osteomyoarticular pathology. Barthel Index modified by Shah was used to measure the degree of functional dependence, 36.2% of patients had moderate dependence, followed by 27.6% with total dependence, then 24.8% with severe dependence, 10.5% with low dependence and 1% independently.
Conclusions: An association was observed between the final Barthel index score and age, at higher age, the total score decreases, and the degree of functional commitment increases. An association between functional deterioration and educational level was found, finding a lower degree of functional compromise in patients with a higher level of education.
